Growing up on the Cornish Coast, Josh Curnow found village life and school in particular a struggle: Battling with his dyslexia and unsympathetic teachers, things came to a head when he split with his long-term girlfriend. Unable to escape the small-town gossip and becoming increasingly isolated, the young Josh desperately searched for a way to channel these experiences, leading to him penning his first tracks in an abandoned cottage! Encouragement for Josh to pursue music came from his ever-supportive family, and local publican Gary – who gave Josh both a job and a chance to perform. A chance encounter in 2009 with producer Andy Baker led to the young singer working with Sound Consultancy – the team behind gospel starlet Philippa Hanna and successful young acoustic duo the
Daughters of Davis. Together with Baker, he recorded debut EP Me v You in the summer of 2012.
As well as returning to his local music circuit, Josh’s future plans include playing in the South of France, where he is forging links through touring musician friends. He also intends to write an autobiography to share his story, and offer a message of encouragement for other young people struggling as he did. Josh also carries out a number of gigs for local charities each year, allowing him to raise much-needed funds for them.
